The Grand finale | EN | DE | FAQ | Back to overview
What is the challenge about?
You are between 6 and 24 years old? You like to tinker and be creative? Then this is the right challenge for you. The goal is to build a self-driving robot that can avoid obstacles as skillfully as possible thanks to its sensors. This robot even works without any coding, instead you are encouraged to research and experiment in order to connect the components correctly with one another. All you need if you want to participate is curiosity and interest. No previous technical knowledge is necessary.
Everybody is welcomed to participate! You can participate alone or with your friends or your family. This can also be a great project if you work in the (non-)formal education! We offer also workshops and help for schools, maison relais or youth houses etc.
How to build the robots, is explained in tutorials which you find below. The grand finale is at the Maker Faire on 25/26.6.22 in Rosport. Until then, you can tinker, test and optimize as much as you like. There are no limits to creativity!
How can you participate?
1. Order your robot kit here for free
All you need to build your robot is our robot kit. Additionally you only need a small flat screwdiver. We recommend that you work on your robot in small groups (2-4 people).
All 1600 robot kits are already preordered. Click here to sign up for our waiting list [link no longer active].
2. Start building the robot
The kits contains all necessary components. So you can start building the robot together with your friends and family.
Don’t worry, if something doesn’t work immediately. Give yourself some time, check all the cables and connections and try it it again.
3. You need some help? We’re there for you!
Download our workbook with understandable work steps and many exciting research questions and exercises which will support you in the building process and encourage you to find the solution yourself.
And/or watch the video tutorial where you find all steps on how to build the robot.
You can visit us at our Robotics Makerspace in Esch/Alzette (22, Rue Henri Koch). We are open every Thursday from 14:00 till 17:00.
We will be there to answer your questions. And to help out if you lost an important component.

4. Pimp your robot and send us a photo!
After building the base for the robot, you are encouraged to decorate and pimp your robot. Think about a story or additional functions. Every idea is welcome! There are no limits to your creativity! (see various categories below)
Depending on your choice, you can use as many additional material as you need.
The only two things you should keep in mind:
- The robot needs to able to drive autonomously and can to drive through a parkour
- If needed, you can also replace some of the original material. Only the base plate and the two big wheels must still be those of the start kit
When you finished building and tinkering, don’t forget to send us a photo and a small description of the story or function of your robot to office@makeit.lu
Only by sending us the photo, you can have chances to win a trophy.
All participants to the Self eSTEAM Challenge ’22 are warmly invited to show their robot at the grand finale that we will organise in the frame of the next Maker Faire Luxembourg. It will take place on 25 and 26 of June 2022 in Rosport.
There we will set up a parcour in which you can test and present your robot. Moreover, the winners of the competition will be announced and maybe you can pick up one of the trophies.
